FAQ

Profiles/Assessments

Q: What is DiSC? Show/Hide

A: DiSC, with the small 'i', is the Inscape Publishing version of the DISC model developed as a result of the work of William Moulton Marston.
For a detailed description of the theory underlying DiSC, click here

Q: What is EPIC? Show/Hide

A: EPIC stands for Electronic Profile Information Center. It is the web based profile administration server provided by Inscape Publishing where you can create your own branded web presence for issuing access codes for a variety of profiles, including DiSC. For more information, and to set up your online EPIC account, click here

Q: What is the difference between DiSC Classic 2.0 and DiSC PPSS? Show/Hide

A: The DiSC Classic 2.0 report uses a narrative style similar to that of the reports available through DiSC PPSS. However, the content of the reports is quite different. Think of the DiSC Classic 2.0 report as a DiSC Classic ("Blue Profile") report with expanded narrative. For more information on DiSC Classic 2.0, click here

The DiSC PPSS reports cover a broad range of behavioral characteristics, including: Behavioral Strengths and Weaknesses, Motivating and Demotivating Factors, Communication Approach and Management and Selling Style. For more information on DiSC PPSS, click here

Q: What are Supplemental Reports used with DiSC Classic 2 PLUS and DiSC PPSS? Show/Hide

A: The six supplemental reports are:

  • Strategies for Creating a Positive Relationship This report describes how to establish a relationship with the respondent that is based upon trust and mutual respect.
  • Relating to People and the Environment This report explains how the respondent interacts with peers and interprets his or her environment.
  • Strategies for Managing This report looks at ways in which people can most effectively manage the respondent.
  • Approach to Managing Others This report analyzes the respondent’s management style and behavior toward subordinates.
  • Strategies for Sales Management This report examines the methods that people can best use to manage the respondent in a sales environment.
  • Approach to Selling This report describes how the respondent performs essential steps in the sales process.

Adding one or two supplemental reports to the DiSC Classic 2.0 narrative will provide more insights for the respondent. And you can include additional supplemental reports at any time for no additional cost. For this reason, there is little need to include all six supplemental reports at once, which could overwhelm the respondent.

You can upgrade an existing DiSC Classic 2.0 report to a DiSC Classic 2.0 Plus report by using the Manage Reports >>Edit Existing Report feature and clicking on Create an Additional DiSC Report at the bottom of the screen. The upgrade price is 10 credits.

Q: When should I use the paper versions of Inscape instruments? Show/Hide

A: Your circumstances will dictate when the paper version is more appropriate than the online version. Some factors to take into account could include:

  • Low trust within the group. The paper version allows respondents to have complete control over their profile results. The online version, though confidential, does not have the same perceived degree of control.
  • Respondent does not have access to a computer, or does not have a (work) email address.
  • The facilitator has always worked with the paper version and feels more comfortable using it.
  • There are time pressures and the respondents cannot go online in time for a workshop.
  • A respondent simply prefers the paper version.

Q: What is the difference between the two Teams programs in idXready? Show/Hide

A: Capitalizing on Team Talents™ and Collaborative Skills for Teams both incorporate data from the Team Dimensions 2.0 assessment. Collaborative Skills for Teams is more situational, focusing on an individual’s role as it relates to interpersonal skills, time management, communication, and project management. Capitalizing on Team Talents is geared more towards motivating a team based on their strengths and understanding their limitations.

Q: Can I email idXready reports/workbooks to participants? Show/Hide

A: Yes. Since idXready™ rides on EPIC, you have the same abilities to View/Print, Save, or email a Participant Workbook. However, there will probably be very few instances where you will want your participants to have their Participant Workbook prior to a training session, as the information means very little to them outside of the classroom experience.

Q: Can idXready programs be used on a Macintosh computer? Show/Hide

A: A Mac version of the idXready program is available for purchase. Please specify Windows or Macintosh when ordering your idXready program.

Q: Can idXready programs be used for virtual training, such as a Webinar format? Show/Hide

A: idXready programs are designed for classroom training and a majority of the activities require in-person sessions. Due to the high resolution of the video assets contained in each idXready program, it will most likely be a facilitation challenge in a Webinar type of seminar setting, as the streaming and buffering of the video will cause “jerky” playback of the video.

Q: Are Facilitator or Group Reports available with the idXready programs? Show/Hide

A: The idXready Team Talents Group Report, and idXready Listening Skills Facilitator Report are now (as of Jan 2008) available in EPIC. View Report samples by clicking on Personal Options>>Create Sample Reports. Please note that the ability to generate any idXready Report requires the purchase of an idXready program. If you have not purchased an idXready program, you will not find idXready products in your EPIC sub-account. If you would like to purchase an idXready program, please do so from this site or call us at 1.877.432.8182.

Q: What should I do if I have problems playing Inscape DVDs on my PC or laptop? Show/Hide

A: There are a number of answers to the question “Why do I have problems playing DVD’s on my computer?” Here are some basic troubleshooting steps to help you track down problems such as nothing happens when I insert the disc, jerky playback, error messages, etc.

  • Does the computer have a DVD drive?
A DVD-ROM (or DVD-R/DVD-RW) drive is required to play DVD movies. The front face of the drive (where you insert the DVD) should have the letters DVD and the DVD symbol on it. A CD-ROM (or CD-R/CD-RW) will not play DVD movies.
  • Is DVD player software installed?
In addition to needing a DVD-ROM drive, special software is also required to play DVD movies. Below is a list of the most common players installed on Windows PCs:

Make sure you have the latest version of the DVD player software installed. If you have multiple DVD players installed, especially trial versions that have expired, uninstall all but the one you plan to use.
  • Can you play other DVD movies on your laptop?
Make sure you can play a commercially produced movie. Rent or purchase a movie and test it in your system and see if it works.
  • Have you tried playing the DVD in another laptop or in a standalone DVD player?
This will help verify whether there’s a problem with the DiSC or the hardware/software combination.
  • Are you trying to use Windows 2000 with Windows Media Player?
DVD movies are not supported in the Windows 2000 version of Windows Media Player. Contact your IT dept for assistance. More information and How-Tos available on the Microsoft website.
  • I put the DVD in the drive and nothing happens. How do I play the movie?
In some computers, simply inserting the DVD will start the player software. If this does not happen there are two alternatives:
    • Go to Start >> All Programs and click on My Computer. Right-click on the DVD-ROM icon (If the DiSC is in the drive it should show the name, such as “EVERYTHING_DISC”). From the pop-up menu, choose “Play”
    • Go to Start >> All Programs and locate your DVD player software. Start the DVD player software. If the DVD is in the drive, the player software will find it and start the DVD.
  • What do I do if the disc skips or playback unexpectedly stops?
Remove the disc and see if it’s dirty. If there are smudges, dust or finger prints, try gently washing the readable (shiny) side of the disc with a soft cloth and either mild detergent or glass cleaner. It is best to wipe from the center of the disc towards the edge, not in a circular pattern.
  • Is the audio out of synch with the video?
This could be a problem with the amount of memory on the computer or the amount of video ram. Make sure all other programs are closed then try running it again. If that doesn’t solve the problem, additional memory for the computer may be needed.
  • My DVD works fine on my laptop but won’t work when my laptop is connected to my LCD projector.
Your laptop may not have enough power to support the DVD through the laptop display and the LCD projector display. Try shutting off the laptop display using the appropriate key combination on the laptop. (Usually the function key and one of the F1 – F12 keys).
